We all need to be experiencing more luxury in our daily lives. By luxury, I don’t necessarily mean expensive. Unless it’s expensive in a “$40 for a bottle of maple syrup from the Catskills” kind of way (my weakness).
I don’t know much about astrology, but you should know that I’m a Taurus Sun, an Aquarius Rising, and a Cancer Moon. These are my credentials. Here are all the things I recommend doing if you want to bring more luxury and delight to your days.
Treat your home like a small gallery
I have the Sundays Field Stool near my entryway and I use it for displaying my favorite books and objects. It’s kinda like my “what’s on display for this week?” stool. Right now, I’ve got a first-edition poetry book by Fernando Pessoa that I got on eBay last month, a book on gardening that a friend gifted us, my daily tomato perfume, and a small seashell.
Keep a stash of extra journals and stationery
I’m all for having a bunch of journals handy. You’re at a stationery store or traveling? You’re buying a journal—even if you have 10 new ones at home. It’s nice knowing you have a collection of beautiful journals, cards, and sticky notes of all sizes and paper types and colors. They also make great gifts. I have some of my favorites here. I also recommend having blank cards and envelopes too so you can design your own with markers and crayons.
Get an incredible hand soap
Hand soap is one of those things I will always splurge on. I work from home and wash my hands multiple times a day. It’s a daily and necessary act and I may as well have the very best!! One of my go-tos that smells incredible is the Mater hand soap. I found it a couple of years ago at Blok Haus in Park Slope and never looked back. Or just thrift a nice soap dispenser and put whatever soap you want in there. I heard the Mrs. Meyer's tomato soap is comparable to the Loewe one…will report back.
Make your home smell good
Speaking of scents, your home deserves a few signature scents. My friends gifted me this incense from Lichen but I’m trying to make it last because it’s currently sold out. The description: smells like wet rocks, but in a good way. And if I’m in a candle mood, I’m burning Library from Maison Markosian.
Prioritize the presentation
I don’t care if I’m eating the simplest meal by myself—I will put a lot of care into the plating because it makes me happy. One of my favorite daily decisions is deciding what cup I want to drink out of. Is it going to be the red cup from Turmeric Times? The amber glasses from Hawkins? The primary colored cup from Knook Ceramics? The cup I made in ceramics a few years ago? All this being said, I also love eating cereal for lunch while rewatching Sex and the City. Life is about balance.
Fill your fridge and pantry with fun items
My non-negotiables: fancy syrup, good honey, berries, assortment of cheeses, bevs for days, and teas of all flavors. I went more in-depth about my fridge and pantry must-haves for
’s Into the Fridge if you're curious. Cracking open a fun beverage at 5 pm, adding a singular big ice cube, and sipping it out of your favorite cup? There is nothing more luxurious.Make time to microread
Even if it’s just for 5 minutes! I can’t stress this enough. It’s better to read just one page a day than not read at all. Sometimes I don’t read because I think I need an entire hour dedicated to it, but it’s been freeing to let go of that. I’ll squeeze in a few pages before walking my dog in the morning or while eating lunch. And always carry your book around. Giving yourself time to read every day is one of those necessary luxuries.
Treat your morning routine like a special ritual
I love getting ready in the morning. After my shower, I reach for my fluffy towels and wear my favorite striped bathrobe. I listen to the ArtHoles podcast on Spotify (currently on ep 5 of the Frida Kahlo series) and take my time with my skincare routine. I reach for my Roz and Odele hair products. I drink a sparkling water (or a tea if it’s winter). The whole thing lasts no more than 30 minutes but it’s the best way to start my day.
Get smart bulbs for your favorite lamps
I don’t know what I’d do without my smart bulbs. The warm yellow light is my go-to, but at night, I like to switch it to red. It makes me feel like I’m in a movie.
For Your Leisure
Honored to have been a guest editor last Sunday for
’s Substack, Home Front! I wrote about secondhand shopping and what I’m currently loving and shopping for.I saw The Aviator’s Wife (1981) at Metrograph last week and it was my introduction to Éric Rohmer. I can’t believe I waited this long and I’m looking forward to seeing more of his movies. After the movie, my friends and I went to Kiki’s and then Casetta for ice cream. The perfect day.
I got a new bathmat and shower curtain from Bright Town and it’s just what I needed for my bathroom. I’ve been gathering a lot of bathroom inspiration recently so that’s coming soon.
If you love cute stationery, basque cheesecake, and hojicha lattes, go to the new Loaf on Paper shop in Williamsburg.
I recently received the spiral silverware set from

I love how you reframe luxury as something accessible through intention and small rituals. It makes me curious are there any specific daily practices you’ve found especially grounding or mood-lifting lately?
Loved the tip about reading only one page! Life with a toddler means I rarely have downtime, but that’s definitely doable. Also love your morning routine
